The story is told through Rachel’s perspective. There’s a lot of information out there about what it’s like to be a K-pop star, but not a lot of people know about the behind-the-scenes of what it takes to become a K-pop star, and what you go through to get your chance to debut. Is there a reason you chose to set the book during the pre-debut period, when Rachel is a trainee? Over Zoom, Jung spoke to TIME about what motivated her to write Shine, how she incorporated personal experiences into the book and who she hopes will be cast as Rachel in the on-screen adaptation-currently being developed by the team behind To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. The vivid novel focuses on Rachel Kim’s time at the fictional company DB Entertainment, where strict rules like no dating and a zero-tolerance social media policy are enforced. With Shine, she makes her literary debut. Widely heralded as one of the most influential K-pop acts that helped introduced Korean music to the world, Girls’ Generation became the first K-pop group to reach 100 million views on YouTube in 2013-with the hit song “Gee.” Jung departed from the group in 2014, and has since released music as a soloist, starred in movies and continued building her fashion brand, Blanc & Eclare. The elder sibling spent seven years as a trainee, the term used to describe aspiring artists in the Korean music scene, before debuting in 2007 in the nine-member group Girls’ Generation. Jung and her younger sister Krystal Jung were scouted in 2000 by SM Entertainment, a major label that’s home to some of the biggest K-pop groups.

If you can do this, you're demonstrating that you understand the body positioning involved in the bottom position of the one-arm push-up and that you also posses the strength required to control it. So, if you have your torso rotated towards the right, you'll lift your right hand off of the floor keeping all of your weight on your left hand. You can make this exercise more difficult by pausing at the bottom for 2-3 seconds while lifting the hand off of the ground on the side you've rotated towards.Remember to rotate without twisting, which means your hips and shoulders rotate together at the same time and at the same rate. Allow your feet to rotate a bit as you turn your torso.Continue to rotate towards the same side for half of the reps and to the other side for the other half of the reps, or alternate on each rep.Drive into the floor with both hands and push your body back to the top of the push-up as you simultaneously bring your torso back to parallel with the floor. As you drop into the push-up, allow your torso to rotate a few degrees to the left (away from your right arm), placing more weight on your right arm while keeping your right elbow tight to your body. Perform a push-up by lowering your body to the floor.Turn your hands outward so that your fingers point at roughly 45 degrees. Place your hands on the floor just barely outside shoulder-width apart with your elbows straight. The rollover push-up teaches you how to position yourself at the bottom while also improving your strength in this part of the range of motion. Improving your one-arm push-up isn't solely about strength. Each one trains different, specific components that are involved in performing one-arm push-ups. Can't do it? Don't worry, these simple variations will get you there.
